Who we are
Get Bit (“we”, “us”) provides fishing intelligence through the Get Bit mobile apps (iOS and Android) and the API at get-bit.net. BiteScore™ is a 0–100 score built from weather, water, and tide. This policy explains what we collect and why.

What we collect
Account: name, email, and a hashed password when you create an account. We store a login token securely on your device. If you enable Face ID or Touch ID, your password is stored only on this device, locked with biometrics, so you can sign in again without typing it.
Fishing profile: water type, species you target, methods, experience level, units, and appearance. You can change these in Settings.
Location: when you allow it, the app sends coordinates so we can pull weather, water, and tide for that spot. If location is off, Today may use a fallback lake so you still get a BiteScore. Saved spots and a default spot are stored on your account if you save them.
Catches: species, notes, photos you attach, and optional coordinates. Catch locations are private by default. Other anglers cannot see where you caught fish.
Ask Get Bit: the question you type, plus fishing context (species, conditions, location name) so the answer matches the water you are scoring. We do not use Ask Get Bit to invent BiteScores.
Device and usage: app version, basic request logs (IP, time, endpoint) needed to run and secure the API, and whether you turned on the morning briefing notification.
How we use it
To sign you in, score conditions, recommend what to throw, save spots and catches, send the morning briefing if you enable it, and improve reliability and support.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your catch map as a social feed.
Who we share it with
Weather, water, and tide providers receive coordinates (not your name or email) so we can return conditions for that point.
If you use Ask Get Bit, the question and fishing context are sent to our AI provider to generate an explanation. Scores and lure ranks stay deterministic on our servers.
We may share information if required by law, or with processors who host the API, solely to operate Get Bit.
Retention
We keep account, profile, saved spots, and catches until you delete them or close the account. Request logs are kept only as long as needed for security and operations.
You can sign out on a device at any time. Signing out removes that device’s login token. Your catches stay on the account until you delete them.
Your choices
You can deny location permission in your device settings. You can turn off notifications. You can edit your name and fishing preferences in the app. You can turn Face ID off in Settings → Account.
You can delete your account in the app under Settings → Account. Deletion permanently removes your profile, catches, photos, saved spots, and Ask Get Bit history. If you cannot use the app, email [email protected] and we will verify the request against the email on the account.
Children
Get Bit is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Passwords are hashed. API access uses a token stored securely on your device. Face ID credentials never leave your iPhone. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
